Want a lot more people to read your novel?

Building a bestselling author brand doesn’t require constantly showing up on social media or running ads. It’s not even about your newsletter.

It’s about making sure your novel is the obvious choice to your ideal readers.

Effectively selling your book—to a publisher, if that’s your aim, as well as to readers—requires positioning it so it stands out yet fits in the literary marketplace. (Yes, that’s a contradiction—but it’s also the truth.) That’s the case regardless of the genre you write in, whether you’re unpublished or mid-career, and whether you’re self-published or publish traditionally.

In fact, you’re building a brand the moment you begin drafting your story. The question is, does that brand attract the right readers?

If you’re not sure, I can help.

Becoming a Bestseller

In the past year alone, I’ve helped:

  • A self-published novelist more than double her royalties with a few small but critical shifts to her book branding—without running ads.

  • A non-fiction author transition to fiction and sell her debut novel in a fantastic deal (after previously unsuccessfully querying more than 100 literary agents).

  • A seasoned novelist find a new, more aligned agent and sell her breakout book to her ideal publisher.

  • A mid-list novelist launch a self-published series that has already exceeded her 2024 income goals.

  • More than half a dozen debut novelists secure top agents (several are already under contract with publishers).

In October, I sold my own novel at auction in a multi-six-figure, two-book deal to my dream editor and publisher (with multiple foreign preempts before I sold the book in the U.S.; I’ll share more details as soon as these deals are announced publicly).

Yes, I worked very hard on my novel. But I also deliberately wrote a high-concept story with broad appeal—and made sure it caught the attention of key industry players with stellar comp titles and a pitch that led editor after editor to say, “I have to read this.”

“I Just Want to Write”

Let’s be honest: as writers, we’d rather be writing. In fact, most of the writers I’ve worked with cringe at the very word “marketing.” The amazing thing about effective branding is that it’s almost entirely about writing. Not social media. Not fancy graphics. Not networking.

In Bestseller Bootcamp, I’ll teach you to use the amazing skill you already possess—writing—to become the obvious choice to your ideal readers. You’ll learn to:

  • Tap into your unique storytelling magic and use universal themes to make your novel appealing to more readers (this works for all fiction genres).

  • Nail your novel’s title and comp books—and use both to uplevel your messaging and marketing.

  • Position yourself in the literary marketplace and sell yourself … without feeling like a sell-out.

  • Pitch your novel in a manner that makes it irresistible to the exact people you’re trying to get the attention of.

  • Create an author brand that harnesses market trends—yet feels timeless and (most crucially) sustainable.

Is Bestseller Bootcamp Right for You?

If reading the copy above gave you a sense of relief—or even excitement—this course is for you. But to be more specific, whether you’re drafting, preparing to launch, or marketing your backlist, this course can help. I created it for:

Aspiring and debut novelists who want to kickstart their careers with confidence and continue to publish.

Established authors making a career pivot—for example, novelists who are shifting from one genre to another, changing publishers, or launching a new pen name, as well as non-fiction authors who want to publish fiction, too.

Traditionally published and/or self-published novelists* who have a goal of reaching more readers. This course is designed to address all genres of fiction.

Camille

*I have successfully published with traditional publishers and self-published and have coached hundreds of writers in each realm. While most of this course applies to both models, I make note of when certain steps apply to one or the other.

Bestseller Bootcamp Curriculum

Bestseller Bootcamp is a five-week course that teaches you to become the obvious choice to your ideal readers.

Every week, you’ll receive a new video module that touches on an essential aspect of creating a bestselling author brand. You’ll also receive a weekly worksheet with the lesson’s major takeaways and exercises designed to help you go deeper on the concepts you’ve learned.

Each video is approximately 20 to 30 minutes long. They’re designed to deliver essential info with zero fluff or filler, so you don’t get overwhelmed and have ample time to put what you’ve learned into practice.

Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll learn:

Module 1: Your Bestselling Book

Research shows that bestsellers in all genres have several key factors in common. I’ll explain how to create a “high concept” idea that makes a story unputdownable; increase your writing’s readability so people zip through your novel; and use cognitive science to make your book appealing to more readers.

Module 2: Your Bestselling Brand

Whether you have an established author brand or haven’t published yet, a few seemingly minor branding decisions can make a major difference in whether readers say, “I have to read that!” when they see or hear about your novel. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to effectively position your books by choosing the right genre, sub-genre, comp books, themes, tropes, cover, and design elements.

Module 3: Your Bestselling Book Pitch

“Tell me about your novel”: The next time someone asks you that, you’ll know exactly what to say—because in this module, you’ll learn to create a magnetic logline (aka elevator pitch). You’ll also get instructions on crafting a concise yet ultra-compelling query letter (if you’re seeking agent representation or pitching to editors) and book blurb (that is, the description on your novel’s jacket and product page).

Module 4: Your Bestselling Marketing Plan

Becoming a reader magnet doesn’t require spending all day on social media. In this module, I’ll show you how to use organic (free) marketing to find readers, get them to give your novel a try, and turn them into real fans who can’t wait to read what you write next. I’ll also offer low-cost marketing ideas and give guidance on how to choose marketing strategies that are right for you and your readers.

Module 5:  Your Bestselling Story

Yes, it really is possible to sell yourself without feeling like a sellout. In fact, research shows that self-confidence and self-trust make you far more likely to reach your goals (and even better, neither require toxic positivity or “faking it ’til you make it”). In this module, you’ll learn to use your storytelling skills to tell a better story about yourself—so that whether you’re chatting with prospective agents or publishers, speaking to a bookclub, or posting on social media, you show up effectively, authentically, and in service of the author brand you’re creating.

Here’s what novelists have to say about working with Camille…

“Before, I struggled to figure out my publishing path. Thanks to Camille’s coaching, I not only found my path, but I also pushed on through to publication. Without doubt, the tools I learned will forever shape my author career.”

—Darci St. John, author

“Camille is the rarest of coaches with her extensive experience in the writing business. She challenges old habits and stories that aren't serving you and encourages a mindset that changes the trajectory of your career and your life. Any issue or problem you bring to the sessions will be met with honest assessment, compassion, and professionalism. I've accomplished more writing goals in the year I've attended her Mastermind sessions than in the previous decade. One of the best decisions I've ever made!”

—Suzanne Adams, novelist

“Whether it be her podcast, a focused workshop or the career novelist mastermind, Camille's data-backed, judgment-free content is engaging, informative, and transformative. She has much to offer at every stage of the author's journey, and I only wish I'd found her much sooner along mine.”

Rachel Stone, author of The Blue Iris

“Since I [started working with Camille], it’s like all areas of my life are on steroids. Camille’s calm and positive approach empowers me to see myself as a career author, and that enables me to take the steps to get there. My mindset has shifted from an aspiring novelist who dreams big, to an emerging author with a newsletter and workshops. Those last two undertakings would not exist if it weren’t for Camille gently reminding me on a weekly basis, that yes, I can and deserve to be a career novelist.”

Marta Lane, novelist and writing coach

“The Career Novelist Mastermind has been the single best investment I've made in my author career. It's taught me so many valuable strategies for consistency, growth, and mindset. It was precisely what I needed at this stage of my career, and I recommend it to any author who wants to level up her career.”

—Lauren Faulkenberry, author

“Working with Camille has given me the motivation to pursue publication of my novels, the skillset to market myself, and most importantly the belief that I can take on this career. Camille knows exactly what writers need to hear and work on to be successful in this business, and my time in her Mastermind has been invaluable.”

—Suzanne Junered, novelist

“You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll learn more than you thought possible—not only about the business side, but about yourself. Camille gently guides you into a deeper, clearer understanding of what you really want, which is invaluable when it comes time to actually make things happen with the strategy bits.”

Holly Henderson, novelist and writer
