About Camille Pagán
#1 Amazon Charts Bestselling Author, Master Certified Coach, and Founder of Even Better Co.
Hello, Writer!
Thanks for your interest in my coaching practice.
You probably won’t be surprised to learn that I always wanted to be an author. But as the first member of my family to attend college, I felt immense pressure to make the most of my scholarship and do something “safe.” After all, I’d heard the stories about starving artists, and most of my relatives worked in the auto industry in Detroit.
Thankfully, several people in my life—including a physician I worked for as a student researcher and my book-loving aunt and uncle—pointed out that I was most likely to succeed by pursuing my passions. I ditched my plan of becoming a doctor and set out to create a career in publishing. After graduating from the University of Michigan and Harvard’s Radcliffe Publishing Course, I became a magazine editor specializing in health and psychology, then transitioned to a career as an independent journalist.
I’ve written more than 1,000 reported articles for outlets including Allure, Forbes, Glamour, The New York Times, O: The Oprah Magazine, Parade, Time, WebMD.com, Women’s Health, and Real Simple, where I also served as health editor. For more than a decade, I also ghost wrote and doctored non-fiction books, working on everything from New York Times bestselling series to the diabetes guide my youngest sister received from her physician after her type 1 diabetes diagnosis.
Then, after years of wondering if I’d ever do it, I wrote and sold my first novel at age 30, shortly after my daughter was born. To date, I’ve published ten books, which have been #1 Amazon Charts and Washington Post bestsellers; my second novel, Life and Other Near-Death Experiences, has been optioned for film by Jessica Chastain’s Freckle Films. (I recently sold my eleventh book and twelfth books; you can read more about that here.) Since my debut, I’ve sold nearly a million copies worldwide and my work has been translated into twenty languages. I recently served as the 2022 and 2023 Guiding Scribe for the Women’s Fiction Writers Association.
Like so many creatives, I used to think I had little control over my writing career. It wasn’t until I began working with a coach that I discovered I had far more control than I’d realized—and that one seemingly small change after another is what really leads to exponential growth.
Coaching was a game-changer for my business—and my life. I learned to work through uncertainty and indecision by asking better questions. I beat burnout by taking control of my calendar, so that I always have time for my writing (even when I had two kids at home in the middle of a pandemic), as well as everything else that’s important to me. I more than doubled my income and figured out how to promote my work in a way that feels authentic instead of salesy.
I loved the coaching experience so much that, although my writing career was thriving, I decided to pursue more than a year of training to become master certified as a coach. Over the past five years, I’ve helped hundreds of writers create even better careers—and I’d love to help you, too.

Before we work together, you should know:
I believe that integrity is everything.
You are assured complete confidentiality when coaching with me. Everything you discuss and work on during coaching stays between us—period. If you choose to work with me, I’ll provide you with a contract stating this.
Allyship is integral to my business.
My immediate and extended family, and my community, are made up of individuals of different races, ethnicities, and religious and socioeconomic backgrounds—and my coaching and business reflect that. I prioritize working with clients, contractors, and vendors with disabilities and those who identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+.
I believe all people are created equal and must be treated with dignity and respect; and likewise, that all people have the right to self-identify and have their identity be honored.
Your safety and mental health are most important to me.
As a trauma survivor, I know all too well that it’s often impossible to change your mindset or implement career strategies if you don’t feel safe, autonomous, and supported. In addition to an emphasis on privacy and inclusion, I take a trauma-informed approach in my coaching, courses, and content. I use invitational language and practices—meaning I will ask you if you’d like to try a coaching approach, rather than telling you to do so (you always have the option to opt out of anything I suggest).
Research shows that coaching is incredibly effective—but it’s not right for every person or situation. I will be clear when therapy and/or other resources are more appropriate than coaching.
I may not get things right 100% of the time—but I am 100% committed to continuing to learn and grow based on my clients’ input and experiences. I am a Fellow Member of the Institute of Coaching at McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, whose ethics and standards align with my own.
