How to have a big breakthrough

I recently realized that most of my big breakthroughs have been the result of conversations with other people.

  • Figuring out how to take my story to the next level while talking to my agent and editor.

  • Having an insight that helps me get out of my own way during a coaching session.

  • Getting new marketing ideas from meetings with my writer strategy group. (We’ve been meeting monthly for more than four years now!)

  • Finding a new, more positive way to look at a tricky situation by texting with my two closest friends.

  • Deciding to work smarter, not harder, after discussing business with my husband (it’s nice to be married to someone who’s also spent their entire career in publishing).

Yes, you have to do the writing yourself—and that can occasionally feel lonely. But other perspectives make you feel less alone. They allow you to see things in a different (and usually better) light. They inspire you to do and be your best.

I love working one-on-one with a coach, but I’ve learned just as much listening to other people get coached. It’s one of the best ways to open your mind to new concepts, tools, and techniques that can help you succeed faster and enjoy the process more.

That’s why I’m so excited to share my new podcast with you. It's called—you guessed it—You Should Write a Book.

Each episode is an actual coaching session between me and another person. Think casual conversations packed with good questions, paradigm-shifting answers—and yes, aha moments.

If you’d like to listen, the first 10 episodes are available now on most major podcast platforms. I’ll be dropping new episodes every Tuesday. Want to get coached for free? Sign up to be on the podcast
